What is an Academic Hood? |
|
|
The Academic tradition
has fashioned a uniform code for apparel that identifies the level
of degree, field of study, and college or university attended.
Students earn hoods that identify their academic concentration by
the color on the velvet collar and a satin lining displaying their
school color. |

Care and Maintenance of
Academic Regalia |
|
|
|
|
|
Please be advised that smoking, eating or drinking
while in regalia is strongly discouraged since most permanent damage is a result of these
activities.
Please DO NOT
iron or wash the regalia as it will leave permanent stains or marks
on it. If you really need to iron the gown, use only iron on
"low" heat and give it a temperature test ironing on the inside hem first.
NEVER iron the Academic Hood as the satin and velvet will
be damaged. If pressing is required, please meet us at the "Robing
or Dressing Room" at the Commencement Venue, we will use a
industrial steam iron to fix the area.
Do not use cologne, perfume or after-shave on the regalia as
cleaning solvents cannot remove any of these. Any tears or
rips in the hems of any portion of the regalia constitute permanent
damage. All rental regalia must be returned in their original state.
Failure to comply will result in you being charged with
replacement
fee.
